Join us for a full day Spinning using a manual spinning wheel.
Whether you are a complete beginner, or have spun a little and would like some guidance, this workshop will be suitable.
Your day will begin with us introducing you to the wheel you will be using, we will show you how to treadle, and you will spend a little time getting to understand the motion of the wheel.
We will then give you the fleece you will be using to spin. We will be spinning sheep fleece as it is easier to learn with than alpaca. We will teach you how to draft the fleece and handle it, then we will set you off spinning.
During the day we will teach you the spinning process, giving you pointers, and showing you how to join the fleece.
As you will all be working on your own bobbin, at the end of the session you can either take your spun single home as it is, or you can have a go at plying it with a second single provided by us.
Learn what a Niddy Noddy is and how to use one.
You will hopefully end up with some usable yarn which is your to take home, but don’t expect to create a full ball of wool! We will also give you a bag of carded fleece to take home with you.
Lunch will be provided for you and will include,
Sandwiches – Meat and vegetarian . Fruit. Cake. Crisps. Bottled Water
(If you have any specific dietary requirements including allergies please feel free to bring along lunch items)
You will also have a plentiful supply of hot drinks through out the day, and biscuits for snacks.
After lunch we will explain the carding process, you can have a go at carding some fleece too. We will have a whole raw sheep fleece available for you to look at, and we will talk you through how to process a fleece.
Places are limited to 5 to keep the group small, so we will have lots of time to help and guide you.
The day begins at 9.30am and finishes at 3pm. You are welcome to meet and feed the alpacas too.
